Ever thought about what money is exactly? Why do we slog, fight and rack our brains over pieces of paper and some shiny coins (today, it’s more like digits on a screen)?
We often forget money is such as interesting object. We hardly notice its presence when we have lots of it, but it sure makes its lack of presence felt when we have less of it. The materials used to produce money, such as cotton paper, plastics, copper, steel, aluminum etc., are often not something people will fight tooth and nail for. But once it’s printed on, stamped on and minted, it becomes something else—something people can spend their whole lives accumulating.
We explore the origins of money, how it became what it is today and where it’s headed to understand what gives money its value.
